On the evening of June 30th, 19 firefighters who were battling the Yarnell forest fire became trapped. They deployed their tents to reduce the heat and smoke from the flame; unfortunately, all 19 died in the blaze. The Prescott community, especially those who are or know firefighters, are in mourning today.
The Embry-Riddle staff has offered to provide assistance in any way they can. A congressional field hearing that is to take place at ERAU’s Activity Center this afternoon at 4pm will likely be converted into a memorial service for those who lost their lives yesterday.
A memorial page has been created on Facebook by HeroesMemorial.org. The link to that page, which currently has over 175 thousand likes, is: https://www.facebook.com/InMemoryOfPrescottFirefightersLost6302013.
The men lost, and their families, will be in our thoughts and prayers as the community recovers from this tragedy.
