The first ever Hazy Library Photo Contest – Hazy Rocks! – was a modest success!
Inaugurated during this month’s National Library Week (April 14-21) 12 photos were submitted. Images ranged from exterior ‘beauty shots’ of the building (“Monument in the Snow,” “In Remembrance,” “Closing @ Midnight,” and “Airbins”) to interior shots like “Limitless,” “Symbiosis,” “Planes on Planes on Planes,” “Late Night Studying,” “Art,” and “Rear Window.”
Seven judges (including students, staff, and faculty) judged the show and awarded the images based on artistic quality and the relationship of the photo subject to the contest theme (Hazy Rocks!).
First Place was awarded to Aaron Pigott for his image of the Word Wall on the library’s 2nd floor (“Limitless”). Second place went to Austin Troya for “Monument in the Snow” and third place was awarded to James Conor’s “Library in the Snow.”
Honorable Mention went to David Small’s “Art” picture (self-portrait in front of the international student art exhibit on the library’s second floor) and Michael Blair’s “Closing @ Midnight.”
Other participants in the show included: Travis Swaggerty (“Planes on Planes on Planes”), Evan Glenn (“Late Night Studying”), Chase LaCombe (“In Remembrance”), Tyler Huether (“Airbins”), and two from Alex Feder (“Not IN Library” and “Rear Window”).
Special Thanks to those who helped support the photo exhibit: ERAU Bookstore for prizes, Raskin’s Jewelry (award ribbons), and Hazy Library & Learning Center Director, Sarah Thomas.
We plan to showcase the photos through next week in the vestibule exhibit space – so stop by and see the creative efforts of your fellow students.
